Why giant hogweed is a problem in Horsham
On Horsham properties, giant hogweed sap causes severe phototoxic burns and long-term light sensitivity, which makes it a genuine safety issue on footpaths, riverbanks and school boundaries. The River Arun rises near Horsham, and the town's old brickworks and former railway sidings along its course have proved ideal ground for knotweed, with further spread tracked through Horsham Park's watercourses.
