Why Himalayan balsam is a problem in Dereham
On Dereham properties, Himalayan balsam fires seed up to seven metres, smothers native bankside vegetation and leaves bare soil that erodes into watercourses each winter. Dereham grew around its market and old railway junction, and the disturbed embankments of the former Mid-Norfolk line combined with the town's mill streams have given knotweed persistent opportunities to establish.
