Why montbretia is a problem in Evesham
On Evesham properties, montbretia corm chains multiply underground and spread along verges, hedgebanks and stream sides, excluding native plants. Evesham sits in Worcestershire, where river corridors, railway embankments and post-industrial ground give invasive weeds like Japanese knotweed plenty of disturbed soil to colonise. Older housing with long gardens and vacant plots around the town see regular outbreaks, and infestations commonly spread along watercourses and disused rail lines into neighbouring streets.
