Why rhododendron ponticum is a problem in Clevedon
On Clevedon properties, rhododendron ponticum forms dense evergreen thickets, shades out woodland ground flora and harbours Phytophthora pathogens that damage nearby trees. Clevedon's Victorian seafront and disturbed clifftop paths along the Severn Estuary, combined with old quarry ground inland, have provided knotweed with a range of footholds around the town.
