Why rhododendron ponticum is a problem in Thornbury
On Thornbury properties, rhododendron ponticum forms dense evergreen thickets, shades out woodland ground flora and harbours Phytophthora pathogens that damage nearby trees. Thornbury's rural setting near the Severn Vale's disturbed orchard land and old quarry sites has allowed knotweed to spread along hedgerows and the disused railway line towards Yate.
