Why couch grass is a problem in Limerick
On Limerick properties, couch grass white underground stems run right through borders, lawns and vegetable plots, regrowing from every broken piece. In Limerick, Japanese knotweed and Himalayan balsam spread along the River Shannon and its tributaries, where floods and riverbank works carry rhizome fragments downstream. Verges and green spaces around King John's Castle and Curragower Falls, along with new housing on the edge of town towards Castletroy and Dooradoyle, are where we most often find established stands.
