Why couch grass is a problem in Letterkenny
On Letterkenny properties, couch grass white underground stems run right through borders, lawns and vegetable plots, regrowing from every broken piece. In Letterkenny, Japanese knotweed and Himalayan balsam spread along the River Swilly and its tributaries, where floods and riverbank works carry rhizome fragments downstream. Verges and green spaces around Lough Swilly and Glenveagh National Park, along with new housing on the edge of town towards Ramelton and Milford, are where we most often find established stands.
