Why couch grass is a problem in Croydon
On Croydon properties, couch grass sharp white rhizomes run through borders, lawns and vegetable plots, regrowing from every broken fragment. Croydon sits in Greater London, where river corridors, railway embankments and post-industrial ground give invasive weeds like Japanese knotweed plenty of disturbed soil to colonise. Older housing with long gardens and vacant plots around the town see regular outbreaks, and infestations commonly spread along watercourses and disused rail lines into neighbouring streets.
