Why curly waterweed is a problem in Naas
On Naas properties, curly waterweed submerged growth fills ponds, canals and fishing lakes, crowding out native aquatic plants and snagging boats. In Naas, Japanese knotweed and Himalayan balsam spread along the Grand Canal and its tributaries, where floods and riverbank works carry rhizome fragments downstream. Verges and green spaces around Naas Racecourse and Punchestown, along with new housing on the edge of town towards Sallins and Kill, are where we most often find established stands.
