Why giant hogweed is a problem in Bridport
On Bridport properties, giant hogweed sap causes severe phototoxic burns and long-term light sensitivity, which makes it a genuine safety issue on footpaths, riverbanks and school boundaries. Bridport's historic rope and net-making industry left disturbed ground along the River Brit and River Asker, where knotweed has spread through old mill leats towards the harbour at West Bay.
