Why giant hogweed is a problem in Leominster
On Leominster properties, giant hogweed sap causes severe phototoxic burns and long-term light sensitivity, which makes it a genuine safety issue on footpaths, riverbanks and school boundaries. Leominster sits in Herefordshire, where river corridors, railway embankments and post-industrial ground give invasive weeds like Japanese knotweed plenty of disturbed soil to colonise. Older housing with long gardens and vacant plots around the town see regular outbreaks, and infestations commonly spread along watercourses and disused rail lines into neighbouring streets.
