Why giant hogweed is a problem in Arnold
On Arnold properties, giant hogweed sap causes severe phototoxic burns and long-term light sensitivity, which makes it a genuine safety issue on footpaths, riverbanks and school boundaries. Arnold's former hosiery mills and quarry sites near the Day Brook created disturbed ground where Japanese knotweed has spread along old railway paths and green corridors linking to Sherwood and Gedling.
