Why giant hogweed is a problem in Swansea
On Swansea properties, giant hogweed sap causes severe phototoxic burns and long-term light sensitivity, which makes it a genuine safety issue on footpaths, riverbanks and school boundaries. Swansea's industrial past around the Lower Swansea Valley's former copperworks left extensively disturbed, contaminated land where knotweed has thrived, spreading further along the River Tawe's banks.
