Why giant hogweed is a problem in Bedworth
On Bedworth properties, giant hogweed sap causes severe phototoxic burns and long-term light sensitivity, which makes it a genuine safety issue on footpaths, riverbanks and school boundaries. Bedworth's coal mining heritage has left extensive spoil heaps and disturbed ground where knotweed has become well established, with further colonies spreading along the Coventry Canal and the old railway sidings nearby.
