Why Himalayan balsam is a problem in Weston-super-Mare
On Weston-super-Mare properties, Himalayan balsam fires seed up to seven metres, smothers native bankside vegetation and leaves bare soil that erodes into watercourses each winter. Weston-super-Mare's seafront and old railway cuttings, along with disturbed dune and reclaimed marshland behind the sea wall, have allowed knotweed to spread through the town's Victorian-era infrastructure.
