Why ivy is a problem in Filton
On Filton properties, ivy adventitious roots work into mortar, render and roof verges, and heavy growth adds wind load to walls, fences and mature trees. Around the aerospace works and the airfield, Filton's mix of gardens, riverbanks, railway corridors and development plots gives invasive and persistent weeds plenty of disturbed ground to colonise, and infestations regularly cross property boundaries across Bristol and Avon.
