Why rhododendron ponticum is a problem in Bargoed
On Bargoed properties, rhododendron ponticum forms dense evergreen thickets, shades out woodland ground flora and harbours Phytophthora pathogens that damage nearby trees. Bargoed sits above the Rhymney river, where regenerated colliery land and the valley railway give weeds an easy route in.
