Why rhododendron ponticum is a problem in Tredegar
On Tredegar properties, rhododendron ponticum forms dense evergreen thickets, shades out woodland ground flora and harbours Phytophthora pathogens that damage nearby trees. Tredegar's ironworks legacy left vast spoil tips along the Rhymney and Sirhowy, and these disturbed banks remain one of the most persistent knotweed strongholds in the South Wales valleys.
