Why rhododendron ponticum is a problem in Staines-upon-Thames
On Staines-upon-Thames properties, rhododendron ponticum forms dense evergreen thickets, shades out woodland ground flora and harbours Phytophthora pathogens that damage nearby trees. Around the riverside and the town centre, Staines-upon-Thames's mix of gardens, riverbanks, railway corridors and development plots gives invasive and persistent weeds plenty of disturbed ground to colonise, and infestations regularly cross property boundaries across Surrey.
