Why rhododendron ponticum is a problem in Dewsbury
On Dewsbury properties, rhododendron ponticum forms dense evergreen thickets, shades out woodland ground flora and harbours Phytophthora pathogens that damage nearby trees. Dewsbury's shoddy and mungo textile industry left contaminated mill sites along the River Calder, where knotweed has spread through disused railway embankments and the town's riverside industrial estates.
