Why stinging nettles is a problem in Crowborough
On Crowborough properties, stinging nettles colonise nutrient-rich and disturbed ground, making verges, play areas and yard margins unusable within a season. Crowborough's elevated position on the Ashdown Forest sandstone ridge means knotweed tends to concentrate around disturbed verges and the old railway cutting, as well as streams draining towards the River Medway headwaters.
