Why giant hogweed is a problem in Aberdare
On Aberdare properties, giant hogweed sap causes severe phototoxic burns and long-term light sensitivity, which makes it a genuine safety issue on footpaths, riverbanks and school boundaries. Aberdare sits in the Cynon valley, where former coal tips and the River Cynon's disturbed banks carry knotweed down from the heads of the valleys to the Taff confluence at Abercynon.
