Why ground elder is a problem in Northwich
On Northwich properties, ground elder brittle white rhizome regrows from every fragment, so digging alone usually spreads it further through borders and hedge lines. Northwich's salt-mining subsidence flashes and old chemical works along the Rivers Weaver and Dane have created unstable, disturbed ground where Japanese knotweed spreads rapidly along the Trent and Mersey Canal towpaths.
