Why creeping and spear thistle is a problem in Northwich
On Northwich properties, creeping and spear thistle creeping root spreads laterally through pasture and amenity grass, and wind-blown seed carries the problem onto neighbouring land. Northwich's salt-mining subsidence flashes and old chemical works along the Rivers Weaver and Dane have created unstable, disturbed ground where Japanese knotweed spreads rapidly along the Trent and Mersey Canal towpaths.
