Why Himalayan balsam is a problem in Wrexham
On Wrexham properties, Himalayan balsam fires seed up to seven metres, smothers native bankside vegetation and leaves bare soil that erodes into watercourses each winter. Wrexham's former coal and steel industries along the River Clywedog left disturbed spoil ground where Japanese knotweed has spread through old railway lines and the Clywedog Valley heritage sites near the town.
