Why rhododendron ponticum is a problem in Wrexham
On Wrexham properties, rhododendron ponticum forms dense evergreen thickets, shades out woodland ground flora and harbours Phytophthora pathogens that damage nearby trees. Wrexham's former coal and steel industries along the River Clywedog left disturbed spoil ground where Japanese knotweed has spread through old railway lines and the Clywedog Valley heritage sites near the town.
