Why Himalayan balsam is a problem in Llandeilo
On Llandeilo properties, Himalayan balsam fires seed up to seven metres, smothers native bankside vegetation and leaves bare soil that erodes into watercourses each winter. Around Llandeilo bridge and Dinefwr Park, Llandeilo's mix of gardens, riverbanks, railway corridors and development plots gives invasive and persistent weeds plenty of disturbed ground to colonise, and infestations regularly cross property boundaries across South Wales.
