Why Himalayan balsam is a problem in Lichfield
On Lichfield properties, Himalayan balsam fires seed up to seven metres, smothers native bankside vegetation and leaves bare soil that erodes into watercourses each winter. Lichfield's Minster Pool and old canal wharves near the Wyrley and Essington Canal offer damp, disturbed banks where knotweed thrives, spreading along the Cathedral city's railway corridors and former gravel workings on its outskirts.
