Why montbretia is a problem in Aberystwyth
On Aberystwyth properties, montbretia corm chains multiply underground and spread along verges, hedgebanks and stream sides, excluding native plants. Around the promenade and Constitution Hill, Aberystwyth's mix of gardens, riverbanks, railway corridors and development plots gives invasive and persistent weeds plenty of disturbed ground to colonise, and infestations regularly cross property boundaries across South Wales.
