Why montbretia is a problem in Worthing
On Worthing properties, montbretia corm chains multiply underground and spread along verges, hedgebanks and stream sides, excluding native plants. Worthing's coastal floodplain and the meandering River Teville, now largely culverted through the town, have created pockets of persistent knotweed, especially around former glasshouse nursery sites once common in the area.
