Why rhododendron ponticum is a problem in Ystalyfera
On Ystalyfera properties, rhododendron ponticum forms dense evergreen thickets, shades out woodland ground flora and harbours Phytophthora pathogens that damage nearby trees. Ystalyfera is in the upper Swansea Valley, where steep ground, the Swansea Canal and old works land hold invasive weeds.
