Why stinging nettles is a problem in Retford
On Retford properties, stinging nettles colonise nutrient-rich and disturbed ground, making verges, play areas and yard margins unusable within a season. Retford's riverside market square by the River Idle and old Chesterfield Canal spur left disturbed towpath and railway embankment ground where Japanese knotweed has spread through the town's former industrial fringes.
