Why field horsetail is a problem in Northwich
On Northwich properties, field horsetail deep rhizome network infests lawns, borders and paving, and it is toxic to horses on grazing land. Northwich's salt-mining subsidence flashes and old chemical works along the Rivers Weaver and Dane have created unstable, disturbed ground where Japanese knotweed spreads rapidly along the Trent and Mersey Canal towpaths.
