Why giant hogweed is a problem in Coleford
On Coleford properties, giant hogweed sap causes severe phototoxic burns and long-term light sensitivity, which makes it a genuine safety issue on footpaths, riverbanks and school boundaries. Coleford lies amid the Forest of Dean's former coal and iron workings, where disturbed spoil heaps and old tramway routes have given knotweed extensive opportunities to establish across the wooded valleys.
