Why rhododendron ponticum is a problem in Coleford
On Coleford properties, rhododendron ponticum forms dense evergreen thickets, shades out woodland ground flora and harbours Phytophthora pathogens that damage nearby trees. Coleford lies amid the Forest of Dean's former coal and iron workings, where disturbed spoil heaps and old tramway routes have given knotweed extensive opportunities to establish across the wooded valleys.
