Why giant hogweed is a problem in Caerphilly
On Caerphilly properties, giant hogweed sap causes severe phototoxic burns and long-term light sensitivity, which makes it a genuine safety issue on footpaths, riverbanks and school boundaries. Caerphilly's disturbed ground around its historic castle moat and former colliery sites nearby has allowed knotweed to establish, with further spread along the Rhymney River valley's old rail lines.
