Why giant hogweed is a problem in Cardiff
On Cardiff properties, giant hogweed sap causes severe phototoxic burns and long-term light sensitivity, which makes it a genuine safety issue on footpaths, riverbanks and school boundaries. Cardiff's docklands legacy along the River Taff and Bute Park's disturbed floodplain, plus old railway sidings near Cardiff Central, have given knotweed extensive opportunities to spread throughout the city.
