Why giant hogweed is a problem in Pontypridd
On Pontypridd properties, giant hogweed sap causes severe phototoxic burns and long-term light sensitivity, which makes it a genuine safety issue on footpaths, riverbanks and school boundaries. Pontypridd sits at the confluence of the Taff and Rhondda rivers, where former coal-mining spoil and disused railway embankments have provided knotweed with extensive disturbed ground to colonise.
