Why rhododendron ponticum is a problem in Pontypridd
On Pontypridd properties, rhododendron ponticum forms dense evergreen thickets, shades out woodland ground flora and harbours Phytophthora pathogens that damage nearby trees. Pontypridd sits at the confluence of the Taff and Rhondda rivers, where former coal-mining spoil and disused railway embankments have provided knotweed with extensive disturbed ground to colonise.
