Why giant hogweed is a problem in Stourbridge
On Stourbridge properties, giant hogweed sap causes severe phototoxic burns and long-term light sensitivity, which makes it a genuine safety issue on footpaths, riverbanks and school boundaries. Stourbridge's glassmaking history left former canal wharves and disused kiln sites along the Stour Valley, where knotweed spreads through the Stourbridge Canal corridor and neighbouring nature reserves.
