Why Himalayan balsam is a problem in Prestatyn
On Prestatyn properties, Himalayan balsam fires seed up to seven metres, smothers native bankside vegetation and leaves bare soil that erodes into watercourses each winter. Prestatyn's coastal dunes and old railway embankments at the foot of the Clwydian hills left disturbed sandy ground where Japanese knotweed has spread through the Nant Bach stream valley and nearby drainage channels.
