Why horsetail is a problem in Basingstoke
On Basingstoke properties, horsetail roots reach two metres down, shrug off most garden weedkillers and push up through lawns, borders and block paving year after year. Basingstoke's rapid post-war development left pockets of disturbed land along the Basingstoke Canal and the M3 corridor, where knotweed has colonised old brick pits and the former railway sidings near the town centre.
