Why rhododendron ponticum is a problem in Huntingdon
On Huntingdon properties, rhododendron ponticum forms dense evergreen thickets, shades out woodland ground flora and harbours Phytophthora pathogens that damage nearby trees. Huntingdon lies on the Great Ouse, whose water meadows and old wharf sites have supported knotweed for decades, with further spread along the disused railway embankment that once linked the town to St Ives.
