Why rhododendron ponticum is a problem in Tewkesbury
On Tewkesbury properties, rhododendron ponticum forms dense evergreen thickets, shades out woodland ground flora and harbours Phytophthora pathogens that damage nearby trees. Tewkesbury sits at the confluence of the Severn and Avon rivers, where regularly disturbed, flood-prone banks and old mill sites have made the town a persistent stronghold for Japanese knotweed.
