Why rhododendron ponticum is a problem in Pontycymer
On Pontycymer properties, rhododendron ponticum forms dense evergreen thickets, shades out woodland ground flora and harbours Phytophthora pathogens that damage nearby trees. Pontycymer lies in the Garw valley, where the river, the former railway and terraced gardens let weeds spread down the valley.
