Why field horsetail is a problem in Caernarfon
On Caernarfon properties, field horsetail deep rhizome network infests lawns, borders and paving, and it is toxic to horses on grazing land. Caernarfon sits in Gwynedd, where river corridors, railway embankments and post-industrial ground give invasive weeds like Japanese knotweed plenty of disturbed soil to colonise. Older housing with long gardens and vacant plots around the town see regular outbreaks, and infestations commonly spread along watercourses and disused rail lines into neighbouring streets.
