Why giant hogweed is a problem in Newton Abbot
On Newton Abbot properties, giant hogweed sap causes severe phototoxic burns and long-term light sensitivity, which makes it a genuine safety issue on footpaths, riverbanks and school boundaries. Newton Abbot's former railway works and the tidal River Teign estuary have disturbed marshy ground where knotweed has flourished, spreading along the Stover Canal and nearby industrial estates.
