Why giant hogweed is a problem in Spixworth
On Spixworth properties, giant hogweed sap causes severe phototoxic burns and long-term light sensitivity, which makes it a genuine safety issue on footpaths, riverbanks and school boundaries. Spixworth's rural setting near disturbed field margins and the old Norwich to Cromer railway line has allowed knotweed to spread along hedgerows and drainage ditches feeding into the River Bure catchment.
