Why rhododendron ponticum is a problem in Spixworth
On Spixworth properties, rhododendron ponticum forms dense evergreen thickets, shades out woodland ground flora and harbours Phytophthora pathogens that damage nearby trees. Spixworth's rural setting near disturbed field margins and the old Norwich to Cromer railway line has allowed knotweed to spread along hedgerows and drainage ditches feeding into the River Bure catchment.
