Why Himalayan balsam is a problem in Leamington Spa
On Leamington Spa properties, Himalayan balsam fires seed up to seven metres, smothers native bankside vegetation and leaves bare soil that erodes into watercourses each winter. The River Leam runs through the Regency parks of Leamington Spa, and the town's former spa bathhouse sites and canal wharves along the Grand Union Canal have all contributed to persistent knotweed colonies.
